°µÍø½ûÇø Community Updates

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the °µÍø½ûÇø community at-large:

  • OPERATIONAL UPDATE: °µÍø½ûÇø administrative offices will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 11 due to the threat of inclement weather.  The normal class schedule is in effect. 
  • °µÍø½ûÇø's in-person open houses are the best way for high school juniors and seniors to see and experience first-hand what it's like being cadet at °µÍø½ûÇø. Students will learn about all aspects of the °µÍø½ûÇø experience and have the opportunity to stay overnight in barracks with a current cadet as a host. Space is limited for these events: Feb. 14-15, Feb. 28 - Mar.1, Mar. 28-29.
  • Upcoming info session Monday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. in Scott Shipp Hall, Room 268 for cadets who want to learn more about the Summer Undergraduate Entrepreneurial Program (SUEP). This program provides field trips to local start-ups, interactions with innovators and entrepreneurs, guest speaker events, and hands-on experience in developing and pitching new business ideas. Best of all: cadets selected to participate receive three elective course credits with free tuition and room and board! Cadets, soon, space is limited.
  • February remains a busy time at °µÍø½ûÇø for the Corps and visitors. Headed to post to attend an event? In addition to parking in town, parking is available around the Parade Ground and near barracks, as well as parking lots near administrative and academic buildings. Please be sure to watch for pedestrians, including cadets training, across post and local trails, and for any specific parking notices.

Funding Opportunity for Top Applicants!

°µÍø½ûÇø is committed to recruiting top cadets, and making their education affordable. Merit scholarships combine these two goals into an amazing opportunity at °µÍø½ûÇø. Institute Merit Scholars receive awards from $5,000 to the full cost of tuition and room and board per academic year. These scholarships are awarded only to incoming cadets prior to matriculation. A select group of applicants in each entering class are awarded The General J. H. Binford Peay III 1962 Merit Scholarships, which cover the full cost of tuition, room, board, and fees.

Preparations for Presidential Inaugural Parade: Arctic Blast Prevents Corps from Going

The Corps of Cadets was scheduled to make their 16th appearance in a presidential inaugural parade Jan. 20, but word reached °µÍø½ûÇø the Friday evening before that because of the extraordinarily cold weather forecast all events would be moved indoors, precluding °µÍø½ûÇø from participating.

NYT Bestselling Author Speaks at °µÍø½ûÇø

°µÍø½ûÇø welcomes New York Times bestselling author, Ace Atkins, for a reading of his 30th novel, “Don’t Let the Devil Ride,” Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. in Gillis Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Kendrick Named Director of Global Education

Col. Jeff Kendrick, professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, has been named director of the Office of Global Education. Since his arrival at °µÍø½ûÇø in 2013, Kendrick has served in a variety of roles, including special assistant to the dean for permit and calendar.
